Tsunami: The Killer Wave

Image
We feel tired by working continuously, how long she can work continuously? Whenever she feels tired she just relaxes herself and relaxes her muscles too. She is none other than our earth. When she relaxes her muscles slightly we have to face some devastating situations. One such terrible effect is Tsunami. Here is what wikipedia says about Tsunami... Why have to fear about this killer wave? Pictures speak more than words. The above picture depicts the effects of this killer wave. This wave is really terrible and makes the living across the coastal regions hard. Why a country like India does does not have alert systems? If this is the case then why peninsular countries like India didn't have a Tsunami warning system or an alert system. Might be the complacency speaking its words ! Is that costs relatively higher? We are going to be a developed nation by 2020. Are we going to make a nation developed without providing the basic amenities like protection from natural calami

My Mangal Experience !

If you are an Indian, August on course gets out that patriotic part of from you. If you are from south India and had your upbringing and schooling there, you might have noticed that August is the month of cultural and social competitions given the full fledge to patriotic topics. On the other side if you are from north India you might have flew the tricoloured kites. Overall August stands for memories of historic respectful incidents. This time its bit different for me. Witnessing an epic drama not only lingers entertainmental values but also takes our respect for our historic heroes. Mangal Pandey - the rising was one such experience. The film had expectations to its greatest intensity. Celebrated actor, two years of tireless efforts, greatest of budgets, success of Lagaan and the story of the first revolution against the British rule formed the grounds for the hype created about the film. The film starts with a guerrilla theater by the elephant riders singing "Mangal mangal ho&#

Future of COBOL

COBOL in the eyes of Mr.Steve Gomori.... During my time with the CIS department at Ohio State I have come in Contact with several C/C++/Java/Perl students who will ask why an institution Would continue to teach COBOL . Isn't it being replaced? Isn't it out-dated? Haven't most places already converted to something else? No. No. No. Of course, they look at me like I just fell off of a turnip wagon and Had it back over me before I had a chance to stand back up. They're convinced, for some reason, that this is a dead language. They can offer no justification for this opinion, it just is. Pretty strong conviction for someone who's had no exposure to the industry. Maybe it's just hopeful thinking. There is a simple reason why it isn't being replaced and new development Is not being done in another language. The same reason why existing COBOL systems aren't being rewritten in another language. The reason? There is no alternative to turn to. What about

Pregnancy and workplace discriminations

Yesterday one of my colleagues went on maternity leave. Being one of her team members I could visualize the impact of her absence in our project commitments. In small teams like ours (8 members to be exact including her) each delivery made during her 2-3 month absence would cause an overhead of 2-3 days (huh! sometimes deliveries are highly against each other(!)). If we are having 9 (3 per month) deliveries then it would add to another one month overhead in addition to her leave period. So if she is leaving for three months then as far as we are concerned it is actually a leave period of four months. So for a small scale develping business concern this would be a big concern (Concern concerns (!)). This is why I believe small scale industries are not keen in employing women in mid 20s. On the other hand if they are employing gals in the 20-23 age group the same issue arises but with little postponement. Some time back BBC published an article "pregnant women losing jobs". It

The Secret of 'Doing Without Doing' - Dr. Robert Anthony

Image
The following is an article I took from a weekly newsletter. A very good one... There's a natural cycle of life experience which takes us from the way we are - our identity and system of beliefs - through the actions we take in following up our goals - and ends up with the achievement we are after, what we want to have. So it's Be-Do-Have. If we concentrate only on our goal, what we want to have, the cycle cannot run its course. Asoka has emphasised that the cycle also breaks down if we do not take the necessary actions. Dr Robert Anthony is now going to describe how equally important, and perhaps the first priority, is to create the right mindset, one that genuinely desires to take the actions and to achieve the goal. The Secret of 'Doing Without Doing' - Dr. Robert Anthony One of the mistaken certainties or misconceptions most people operate under is that you get what you want in life by what you DO, or through the actions you take. Most people believe that th

Mega Serials

Image
The manner in which it is presented is worth more than the content of a thing.- Pierre Corneille It has been half a decade now since mega serials have taken the control of our supper hours. The serial named "Rayil Sneham" by K.Balachander in late 80s is the first of such dominative mega serials. These serials binds us closer occupying the whole of our concentration, entertainment and enthusiasm. The greatest of such hits being "Chiththi" by Raadhika. It was said that Chennai's traffic was off by 50% during Chiththi hours. It shows how we have engaged ourselves in serials and the recreational value provided by them. Its heartening to know that 27% of youngsters are also addicted to serials. Husbands started scolding wives on giving such admittance to serials and complained that they are even deprived of their food. But this scenario changed for Chiththi. As the serial crossed 50 episodes, the viewers strength was 40:60 to the women. Gents themselves realized

Blogoshpere

After the bloggo mania hit me, I was searching for options to enhance and popularize this whitesheet but just couldn't get over creeping up assignments and a trip to my hometown. But got some good advises from my friend to pep up things for my blog. So started leaving comments in some blogs which I found on Swahilya's blog. Started the process(!) from Ganesh's (the name certainly has the magic...seems there might be atleast 10 popular "Ganesh" bloggers) and got the reply from him on mine, the first success uhha...! While googling "popular indian blogger", got into Vikramarumilli's blog. Great that many are competing for the popularity. Thanks to Vikram added PageRank extension to my firefox. Bit disappointed to know that my whitesheet is unable to get a rank but my tamil version doing its job with "3". Next measure in "popularizing" is of course as expected is linking to some blogs. Now I am having a handful (14 to be

The bachelor life with religiousism

Bachelor life as always seen is footloose and fancy-free. Getting the kick out of something is the real motto behind every bachelor. Leading a life of entertainments and enjoying the companionship of fellow comrades fetches the thirst and burst out of you. Often I used to wonder that bachelors (of course spinsters also) are the most happiest of persons in this world. I was a day-scholar in my school and college days and so I was deprived of such brotherly companionship and liberty. Though I have a younger brother, the age difference (7 years) laid definite gap between us thereby adding to my dreams of bachelor life. Now I am into a job about 3000 Km away from my hometown and into that "happiest" (!) bachelor life. Bachelor life adores companionship to maintain the size of wallets and care. But the headcount really matters most of the time. Getting adjusted with diverse personalities all the time is the ultimate thing which no one can even imagine but happens for real i
